Tom is a saxophonist with over 40 years experience in the jazz genre. Educated at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he holds degrees in Music Composition and Music Education. He performs, composes and arranges for a variety of ensembles throughout western New York. He has been commissioned to compose works for student ensembles in the Rochester, NY area and regularly writes for the large jazz ensemble genre. Rochester has been his home since 1984 and he's a regular performer in the surrounding area. In 2004, his first solo recording was released featuring original compositions and arrangements along with several notable Rochester area musicians. From 2004 through 2006, he participated in the Jazz Composers Workshop in New York City where he worked with acclaimed jazz composers Jim McNeely and Michael Abene. From 2006 through 2009 he expanded his compositional skills with Dave Rivello; an up-and-coming composer on Rochester's local scene and faculty member at the Eastman School of Music. His commitment to the study of jazz supports his work as a performer and clinician in this uniquely American musical genre. As the director of The Syndicate Jazz Band his compositions for large jazz ensemble have been performed at the annual Rochester International Jazz Festival. His past associations include the Mel Rogers Big Band, Moment's Notice Sextet, Whozat, and other local favorites. Local venues such as the Little Theatre Cafe, the Montage Grille, Le Jazz Hot Café and others have regularly featured his bands. His quartet plays traditional jazz from the Great American Songbook, the bebop era, contemporary styles and original music that keeps the band sounding fresh. This unique blend of music offers an evening of jazz that audiences will appreciate for a long time to come.
